Can I make an Insurance Claim for Damaged Carpets or Flooring?

Check you insurance policy to see if the damage is covered.

How to Make the Claim for Damaged Carpets or Flooring?

Call your insurance company to inform them of your need to make a claim. In the case of a spillage they will probably send somebody to try and clean your carpets or floor. If this doesn’t work and the damage is beyond repair, you will need to get quotes for new flooring. In most cases you will need two written quotes from a local carpet company.

Some insurance companies insist you use their preferred supplier or accept a reduced amount, which is both incorrect and illegal.  If this happens, you should complain to the insurance company in the first instance, or contact to the Finance Ombudsman. Their consumer helpline number is 0845 606 1234

Insurance companies are regulated by the FSA. The Financial Ombudsman ruled in October 2001 that it is illegal for insurance companies to force you to buy goods or services from a specific supplier, and cannot offer you a lower amount if you do not use their recommended supplier.
