Eco Friendly / Sustainability

Wood

All manufacturers we work with comply with various certified third party environmental agencies, such as FSC™ & PEFC. We all have a responsibility to look after our environment. Wood flooring is the most environmentally friendly option for your flooring needs.

Laminate

Laminate flooring is a composite material made of sawdust, wood chips, and other post-consumer wood products. There’s no need to harvest the raw materials to create laminate boards. So not only are natural resources not being depleted for its creation, there’s no need to ship hardwood from across the globe to yourlocal flooring supplier.

Laminate wood flooring can be recycled, ground up and composted, or even burned as a source of energy. The lack of synthetic chemicals makes all of these options safe for the environment.

Carpet

Wool carpets are very eco-friendly, sheep regrow their wool every year, making this a great resource that we know can be easily replenished.

SmartStrand Forever Clean was the first bio-based carpet which is partly composed of renewable plant-based materials which minimise our natural resource usage. SmartStrand fibres are made with 37% natural starch, which makes it the most environmentally-friendly yarn available today. It is made of a unique fibre called PTT or Triexta which is similar to nylon or polyester. The petroleum which is usually used in carpet manufacture has been replaced with biodegradable corn glucose, a renewable resource.

Sisal, as a natural fibre, is a renewable and sustainable material. Since sisal is the strongest natural fibre, it last longer than jute, seagrass and other natural fibre options, giving it even more staying power.

Recover Carpet Tile & Sheet A fully recyclable carpet tile & sheet. Made from 80% recycled material.

Vinyl

Moduleo are committed to the environment, using up to 50% recycled materials for all their flooring. Moduleo constructed a wind farm to power their factory using sustainable energy, and have recently achieved a BRE A+ rating which is an industry-leading accreditation system for sustainable buildings and construction materials.

Karndean’s LVT products are ortho-phthalate free, so contain no harmful chemicals. Their adhesives are solvent free and have low VOC emissions, making them a great choice for a safe and environmentally-friendly floor.

It may surprise you to learn that sheet vinyl is now one of the most environmentally friendly options around! Made with sustainable practices, many containing recycled content and all fully recyclable after use, vinyl also lasts a long time.

Underlay

There are a number of Eco-Friendly underlays available on the market including:

Spring Bond Eco-Engineered Underlay – Made using recycled PET plastic bottles (180 bottles per roll). 85% Recycled content. 100% Recyclable. Chemical free.

Duralay are responsible for recycling 3 million tyres every year, and what’s more the underlay can be recycled again at the end of its life.

Axfelt Underlay -100% Recycled Three Layer Underlay. Top Layer – 95% Wool fibres. Middle Layer – 50% Wool fibres – 50% Other fibres. Base Layer – Recycled rubber crumb.

FSC™

The FSC™ certification is widely recognised as the “gold standard” in wood that has been harvested by responsibly managed forests. When you buy wood planks with the FSC’s stamp of approval, you can be confident that the wood comes from a source that is environmentally conscious, socially beneficial and economically viable.

PEFC

PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system. Their credible standards seek to transform the way forests are managed globally – and locally – to ensure that all of us can enjoy the environmental, social and economic benefits that forests offer.

The PEFC is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.
